A few weeks ago, I was honored be invited to attend Celgene’s Psoriasis Social Media Summit as an online influencer and as a mentor for NPF in New York City. Along with other psoriasis and psoriatic patients, I was able to participate in a roundtable discussion on Bringing a Voice To The Psoriasis Community. You can read my After Thoughts and Takeways here. This was extremely exciting for me to be able to bring more awareness to psoriasis and actually feel like I was being heard.
While talking about psoriasis is an incredibly passionate hobby for me, so is dressing the part. But I knew dressing for New York Fall weekends can be tricky. Especially a Houston girl where fall and winter seem to come and and go with a blink of an eye. I was going to be in New York City for three days and two nights so planning the outfits took some thought — especially because I was only going to take a carry on. My travel essentials had to be versatile, professional and classy. I’m excited to share my looks with you.
I am obsessing over the color maroon right now and I have been wearing this red beauty a lot this winter. The fabric is airy and light which is great for my psoriasis. With the cold weather, my skin can still breathe through the fabric. It’s also just warm enough that you can pair it with a statement scarf and you’ll be set for the “winters” here in Houston. For those of you in colder climates, pair it with a collared white long sleeve shirt underneath.
These leather leggings have also become my new best friend. Besides being comfy, they are still professional enough to wear to work with some heels or boots when the weather calls for it. I always pair it with tunics or longer sweaters and a belt cinched at the waist. I wore this to walk around Times Square and see the beautiful city.
For the day of the conference, I chose the classic all black look. All black while having psoriasis? Some might say that’s brave. Some might not even try it. But I feel confident in black. Black is extremely versatile and you don’t have to put a lot of thought into. No matter what you wear, you always look put together.
I wore these shiny coated pants from The Limited. I am loving these pants. They are professional and yes versatile. You can pair it with a tee shirt and flats for your errands days. Or dress up the pants with heels and any color top and you’re work-place ready. The zippered detail at the bottom lets you keep your shoes minimal so the pants can speak for themselves. I kept it simple with these Carlos Santana booties. These are beyond comfortable yet they still have a little bit of height so you can feel dressy at the same time.
This gold statement neck pulls the outfit together. Since I stuck to all black, I wanted a statement piece and this is my go-to statement necklace. Without fail, I always get complimented on it and you can pair it with pretty much any outfit.
I even received a sweet comment from a new friend I met, Brittany. She said “Oh, wow! You look super cute. I am loving this outfit. And wearing black while having psoriasis, I applaud you.” Her comment just reinforced my mantra when choosing what I wear for the day. Dress for the way you want to feel! If you are having a flare up or some blemishes that make you uncomfortable — that doesn’t mean you have to dress that way. Pick a really great pair of jeans that fit you just right, or a top that you’ve been dying to wear even if it’s short sleeves. That’s where scarves come into the picture! Pair that top with a funky scarf and you not only can cover up the blemishes, but you’ll look — and feel — great while doing it.
